San Marcos High School Advanced Placement Information

San Marcos High School offers 20+ AP courses, from English and Government to Statistics, Environmental Science, Computer Science, and Art & Design — all AP Audit–approved as rigorous, college-level classes.

Students will pre-register for exams via AP Classroom with their teachers. This is required to take any exam.

Online payments are recommended and can be made at any time between November 3 and November 7 at 11:59pm.

All online payments must be completed by Friday, November 7, by 11:59pm.

ALL PAYMENTS AFTER NOVEMBER 7 MAY INCUR A $40 LATE FEE.

NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED

Payment and Registration Information

Amnesty Week Payments

  • Pre-register for each exam online through AP Classroom (see your teacher)
  • Pay $99.00 per exam November 3 – November 7 on our ONLINE WEBSTORE  OR
  • Two Payment Options:
    1. Pay online at the SMHS Webstore – be sure to pay for the correct exam(s) OR
    2. Pay in-person by November 7, at 3pm with a check payable to San Marcos Unified School District (or SMUSD).
      • Print, fill out, and sign AP Registration form (AP Paperwork)
      • Put student ID on the front of check
  • Check the receipt for accuracy. Save it for proof of payment and take a photo.
  • IMMEDIATELY contact the Finance Office if you paid for the wrong exam.

Refund and Late Policies

  • All late payments after Amnesty Week may incur a $40 College Board late fee. Late payment window will open later in the year.
  • No refunds will be issued.

Exams for Non-SMHS Students

Non-SMHS students may take exams at San Marcos HS if space is available.
Non-SMHS students will be charged an additional fee to cover administrative costs. 
($51 administration fee. $99 exam fee. Total fee per each exam is $150)

SMHS does NOT offer accommodation testing for non-SMHS students.

Contact Kristen Mazzola from Oct 22 – Oct 29 to sign up for an exam by sending the student name, student email, mobile phone number, home address, and school of residence. You will then be placed on a waiting list and must pay during the payment window.

Payment may be made in cash or a cashier's check (payable to SMUSD) to the SMHS Finance Office during the following dates and times: November 3-7, 8-10am and 2-3pm. No money orders or credit cards accepted.
